Knee injuries like ACL and PCL ruptures, injuries to the collateral ligament and the meniscus are, with a percentage of 16%, the second most common sports accidents in Germany. With 18%, men are injured more often than women (14%). The injury rate of knee injuries occurring in everyday life is considerably lower than that of injuries occurring during sports activities.

Of course, chronic conditions like osteoarthritis also call for a doctor’s therapeutic intervention. Depending on the severity of the injury and the individual fitness of the patient (age, muscular status and sensorimotor abilities), knee injuries are treated either surgically or non-surgically. Irrespective of the type of therapy, knee orthoses will be used during the early stages of rehabilitation during the important early-functional joint therapy and in order to immobilize the knee.
